Putorana Plateau and Yenisei River cruise

Putorana Plateau is a vast uninhabited mountainous area on the north of Siberia. More than 25,000 lakes and waterfalls form the second largest store of fresh water after lake Baikal. This land of severe climat and breathe-taking landscapes is in the World Heritage List.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1
    Norilsk
    Early arrival in Alykel airport in 35 km from Norilsk. Transfer to Norilsk, check-in at «Talnakh» hotel, twin rooms.
    Lunch.  City tour of Norilsk.

  2. Day 2
    Putorana Plateau
    Early breakfast.
    07:30 Transfer to river port, boarding a motor boat that goes up Norilka river to Lama Lake on Putorana Plateau.
    Putorana plateau is an area of step-like hills with deep and wide canyons between them. There are more than 25,000 lakes and waterfalls.
    The Putorana Nature Reserve, established in 1988, covers some 1,887,251 hectares. In July 2010, the Putorana Reserve was inscribed on the World Heritage List.
    Lama Lake seems to be the most beautiful and well known lake on Taymyr peninsula. It is of tectonic origin and is more than 100 million years old.
    Lunch
    Guided walk in a buffer zone of Putorana Nature reserve. Visitin South Neralakh waterfall and waterfalls on Vitaminka river.
    Transfer back to Norilsk.
    Dinner in a hotel.
  3. Day 3
    Norilsk - Dudinka
    Breakfast
    Excursion to Krasnye Kamni (Red Stones) waterfall not far from Norilsk.
    Lunch. Check out.
    Transfer to Dudinka town. City tour.
    Dudunka is the coldest (up to -57oC in winter) and the northernmost settlement (69°24'N) on the Earth.
    It is located on the right bank of Yenisei river at the confluence with Dudinka river.
    Check-in, dinner.
  4. Day 4
    Cruise starts
    Breakfast, check-out.
    Excursion to Taymyr Regional museum.
    11:30 boarding a ship, accommodation in twin cabins. There are 2 berths, wardrobe and washbasin in a cabin. Showers and toilets are shared.
    The ship leaves Dudinka Port at noon.
    Lunch aboard.
    Excursion on the ship.
    Dinner aboard.
    The ship makes stop at Igarka town at night.
    Igarka is located inside the Arctic Circle in continuous Permafrost zone.
    Sea ships going from Yenisei Gulf come to anchor in Igarka Port.

  5. Day 5
    Arctic Circle
    The ship crosses the Arctic Circle near Kureika river flowing to Yenisei.

    The ship makes stop in Turukhansk town.
  6. Day 6
    Villages on Yenisei river

    The ship passes by Verkhneimbatsk town.

    At night the ship passes by the third largest Yenisei tributary - Middle or Podkamennaya (Stony) Tunguska River, the place of the Tunguska event.
    In 40 km the ship comes in a canyon which bank-to-bank width is only 700 m, and ships have to pass it by turn. It is called Osinovsky rapids as well.
  7. Day 7
    Villages on Yenisei river
    The ship goes through Osinovsky rapids. In 30 m from shipboard one can see Monastyrsky island and 2 rocky islands called Korablik (Small ship) and Barochka (Small barge).
    The ship goes up the River and passes by Osinovskie Shcheki that seem to be one of the picturesque places on Yenisei.
    Osinovskie Shcheki is a canyon with granite walls towering up to 50 meters.

    Stop at Vorogovo town founded by Cissacks in XVIIth century.
    This small settlement with population of 2000 people is multinational – Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Germans and Ketts live here.

  8. Day 8
    Yeniseisk
    Breakfast aboard
    The ship comes to anchor in Yeniseisk on the left bank of Yenisei River.
    This town is called an open air museum for its architectural ensembles built in Siberian baroque style dated back to XVIII century.
    Transfer and accommodation in «Yeniseiskaya» hotel in twin and triple rooms.
    Shared showers and toilets are in corridor.
    Lunch. Yeniseisk town tour, excursion to Yeniseisk local lore museum.
  9. Day 9
    Yeniseisk

    Visiting monasteries and churches of Yeniseisk. 
    Lunch in the hotel. Excursion to Monastyrskoe lake in 30 km from Yeniseisk.
    Dinner in a hotel.
  10. Day 10
    Yeniseisk - confluence of Angara and Yenisei rivers - Krasnoyarsk
    Breakfast.
    Excursion to Museum of Jack-planes, which is in Guinness Book of Records.
    Lunch. Transfer to confluence of Angara and Yenisei rivers called Strelka.
    Picnic on fresh air.
    Transfer to Krasnoyarsk. Accommodation in «Krasnoyarsk» hotel in twin rooms.
    Dinner in a hotel.
  11. Day 11
    Krasnoyarsk
    Breakfast
    09:30 AM Krasnoyarsk city tour.
    Excursion to museum on «Svyatitel (Saint) Nikolay» ship.
    Lunch
    02:00 PM excursion to Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric station, «The Czar Fish» observation deck and embankment of Divnogorsk city.
    Excursion to memorial of Viktor Astafiev in Ovsyanka village. Viktor Astafiev was a prominent Soviet writer, the author of «Czar Fish» novel.
    Dinner in a hotel.
  12. Day 12
    Krasnoyarsk Pillars
    Breakfast
    09:30 AM excursion to Stolby Nature Reserve (Krasnoyarsk Pillars).
    It was founded in 1925. Its area is 47 219 hectares. The park is famous for its complexes of rocks or pillars.
    Transfer to a hotel, lunch.
    Dinner in a hotel.
  13. Day 13, Saturday
    Breakfast. Check-out from a hotel.
