Chivyrkouyskiy Bay is situated in the north-east of Lake Baikal. Its territory makes up 270 square km, the length is 26 km, the width is from 6 to 12 km, the depth of the bay reaches several tens meters. There are several coves in Chivyrkouyskiy Bay: Bezymyannaya, Okounevaya, Zmeinaya, Ogonskaya, Krokhalinnaya.
In summer the waters in the coves warms up very well up to 19 – 22 °C, and the air temperature sometimes reaches 30 °C. The shores of the bay are gently sloping and thickly wooded.
Chivyrkouyskiy Bay is one of the most beautiful places at Baikal. Its landscapes are picturesque and various: exotic islands, caves in rocks, hot curative springs, sandy beaches, virgin taiga, mountain tops covered by snow, alpine meadows. It’s a wonderful place for fishermen; there is grayling, pollan, Arctic Cisco, sturgeon, pike, perch.
There have been found archeological monuments such as late Stone Age sites, nomads tombs at Cape Ongokonskiy, Bolshoy Baklaniy Island, Zmeinaya cove. You can bathe in hot curative springs at Zmeinaya cove. The local people think that if you bathe in its springs ten times you can be cured from all diseases. Wonderful conditions fro having rest, variety of landscapes, fishing facilities attract a lot of tourist to Chivyrkouyskiy Bay every year.
