Olkhon Island - the heart of lake Baikal

Olkhon Island is the biggest and the most beautiful Island on lake Baikal. People often say lake Baikal is the blue heart of Siberia and Olkhon Island is the heart of lake Baikal. During your trip to Olkhon Island you`ll see beautiful landscapes of forests, steppes, mountains, rocks and sand beaches, you`ll admire sunsets, sunrises and know about the life style of buryat people - native dwellers of Olkhon.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1: IRKUTSK - LISTVYANKA
    Arrival in Irkutsk.
    Meet a local guide and a driver in airport and transfer to a 3* hotel. Check-in.
    City tour of Irkutsk to see houses with wooden decorations, churches, main streets of the city, theatres and other historical sights (3 h).
    Lunch in a restaurant.
    Transfer to Listvianka village, 70 km from Irkutsk. We visit Baikal museum, go up to the observation deck of Chersky mountain by chair lift and walk in Krestovka valley to Saint Nicolas church. Drive back to Irkutsk. Overnight in a hotel.
  2. Day 2: IRKUTSK – SAKHURTE village (ferry) – OLKHON island
    Breakfast.
    Meet a driver in a hotel lobby, transfer to bus station.
    Departure by local bus to Sakhurte village from Irkutsk to take a ferry to the Olkhon island. The way from Irkutsk to Sakhurte village takes about 4 – 5 hours, 250 km.
    Ferry to Olkhon (free of charge). Way to Khuzhir village takes 40-60 minutes (40 km). Arrival in Khuzhir, accommodation in a guest house.
  3. Day 3: KHUZHIR – OGOI island
    After breakfast full-day group excursion to Ogoi island on a ship. In 2005 Buddhist Stupa was built here. Lunch aboard. Excursion is for 6 – 8 h.
  4. Day 4: KHUZHIR – KHOBOI cape
    Breakfast.
    Full day group excursion by UAZik (russian minivan) to the picturesque place at the northern point of the island – Khoboy cape. Khoboy is in the widest place of Baikal and looks like a woman`s head. According to the legend this woman asked Gods to give her the same palace as her husband had, but instead was turned into stone for her envy. Pic-nic on the way. Trekking to the Uzury village. Transfer back to Khuzhir. Overnight and dinner at the camp. Excursion is for 6 – 8 h.
  5. Day 5: OLKHON – ferry – IRKUTSK
    Breakfast. Departure by local bus to Irkutsk. Arrival in bus station, meet with a driver. Transfer to a hotel.
  6. Day 6. IRKUTSK
    Breakfast. Transfer to the airport/ train station. Departure from Irkutsk.
